Cellar 335: A Caribbean Asian-American Gem For The Experimental Foodie
We know how you New York gals tend to feel about Jersey, Long Island, Connecticut and basically any place that is not Manhattan. We know sometimes you’d rather eat your daily Upper West Side Chinese than travel thirty minutes in search of something great. We get it, we’ve been there, but we’d like to change your mind. We’d like to take you out of your comfort zone and out exploring, which is why we’ve come to show you our new favorite hotspot: Cellar 335, Jersey City.
In case you haven’t heard, JC has really been stepping it up lately with their booming restaurant life, hip bar scene and general city feel. No, it is not Times Square just yet, but it’s certainly no quiet suburb either – and from what we’ve noticed, more than a couple elite Manhattan Chefs are taking the leap and setting up shop in the up-and-coming neighborhood. We don’t know about you, but for us, a quiet JC date night in this chilly October sounds pretty close to perfect.
Cellar 335, JC’s hottest new restaurant has finally opened its doors to our vibrant NYC crowd, presenting us with the tropical dining experience of a lifetime. Led by talented Chef Jamie Knott (of Saddle River Inn), the cozy underground eatery serves Progressive American Cuisine with Asian influences – think deep Alabama flavor meets South Asian spice. The cocktail menu is a whole different story. Created by renowned mixologists Joshua Fossett and Guillermo Bravo, the spot’s delicious tiki-inspired cocktails are creativity in a super elaborate cup. Available in regular and large format sizes, the unique and extra-potent mixes are all served inside funky tropical vessels – a fish tumbler, a skull mug, and a flaming volcano are just a few. The Hawaiian vacay concoctions are in fact so delicious and so Insta-worthy, that when visiting the new dining spot we had to have three! Don’t judge us till’ you try them! #DoItForTheInsta
The decor of the spot is both sultry and seductive with a hint of street art edge and quirky energy. Featuring exposed brick, luxurious dark leather, distressed wood, wild exotic plants and a complex yet vibrant wall of graffiti, Cellar 335 is a place of elegance and refinement yet with a deep sense of sensuality in its ambiance. Whether you’re in the mood for a romantic evening meal, or a wild midnight drink, Cellar 335 will not disappoint.
When visiting this gem of a restaurant, we tried just about everything from their newest menu. All incredibly flavorful, perfectly spiced and ideal for a hearty Sunday meal. So if you were thinking low-cal dinner, think again! Our faves from the night included: Spicy Cornbread, Crispy Duroc Ribs and sweet mango and seaweed Crab Cakes topped with a creamy kimchi mayo. We’re not exaggerating when we say that no Asian-American fusion has ever tasted so damn good. As for the drinks, we suggest keeping it spicy and classy with the ginger and passionfruit infused Smoldering Bastard – though if you’re really in for a party, get ready to light it up (literally... on fire) with the spot’s best-selling Pele’s Awa. Picture-perfect and extra boozy, just the way we like it.
