Inside Jill Stuart's Dreamy SS17 Collection
In a breeze of romantic pastels, rosy pinks and perfect whites, Jill Stuart’s fantasy-inspired SS17 collection came to take our breaths away. This past Saturday, September 10th at the beautiful sea-side Dune Studios, Stuart’s vibrant spring/summer designs owned the catwalk and captivated our hearts with their quiet beauty.
From gorgeous silk gowns in rainbow hues to metallic pants, sheer floral tops, fun accessories and multi-colored platforms, there was nothing we didn’t love about this dreamy collection.
The makeup look – feeling a bit more risqué than Stuart’s usual au naturel style – consisted of colorful shimmery eyeshadow and a delicate pink nail color made specifically for the dazzling show, and which we now know as “Jill’s Mia” by Zoya.
For an inside look into this fantastical show, we went backstage with Jill, and asked her a few questions about her latest and greatest collection:
What was your inspiration behind this SS17 collection?
I was inspired by Loïe Fuller and The Serpentine Dancer.
What made you choose to go a lot brighter this season?
I’m thinking of a girl who is living the life of a performer. She’s dancing in the dark, she’s going from rehearsal to the stage. She’s deep and incandescent and she’s expressing herself through sound and movement.
How have your silhouettes changed from last season?
This season they are very fluid, very languid and there is a lot of layering. I’m using a lot of rainbow colors.
Tell us about your design process.
I start everything with a mood board: my color palette, my fabrics, and the rest follows.
What are some of your favorite fabrics from this collection?
I used to really beautiful silks, matte jerseys and leathers.
What are some of your top looks from the show?
I love the look of knit layering over flowy silks.
Your entire makeup look (from eyes to nails) is all very vibrant and rainbow-inspired, who is the girl you are designing for?
My girl this season is a beautiful dancer going from dress rehearsal to the stage.
Describe collection in three words
Rainbow of dancers.
