Inside The Real-Life Fantasy Of Dennis Basso's Gorgeous SS17 Collection
Dennis Basso, the beloved New York based designer known for his bold hues, edgy silhouettes and timeless elegance left us in awe, last Tuesday, with his gorgeous SS17 collection. Extremely wearable, flattering and soft like spring, Basso’s newest collection is current yet innovative and delicate yet strong. It’s the best of both worlds, and the essence of the modern woman.
Featuring beautifully translucent lace gowns, silk tops and edgy cutouts on suede mini dresses, the amount of beauty we found in every piece of this collection was truly magical. Admiring each look in what felt like a daydream, we were captivated by Basso’s lovely chiffon skirts embellished with glittering florals and paired with oversized fur coats, sensual leather corsets and trendy lace-up flats. In an array of gleaming whites, deeps browns, royal beiges, electric metallics and sensual blacks, Dennis Basso’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection brought the fantasy of spring back to the runway and into our hearts.
Take a look at our backstage interview with the talented designer and get an inside look into his fabulous creative process.
What was your inspiration behind this collection?
Modern World Voyager
What was your favorite look?
I think my favorite look would be the soft flowing, hand pleated gowns, dresses and trousers.
How do you feel about seasonal trends and do you ever follow them?
I think a seasonal trend is somewhat important because it directs the fabrics, weights and the looks, but after that I like to be able go with my own vision.
Who is your style icon?
One of the great style icons for me is Babe Paley, along with Jacqueline Onassis.
How did you come up with your silhouettes, palette and fabrics for this collection?
My whole vision for this collection was to keep it soft and neutral. It embodied the whole feeling of the modern world voyager. Easy colors that could fit into any background. Once I created that in my head I had my starting point.
Who is the Dennis Basso girl?
The Dennis Basso girl is truly a woman who loves fashion. She is international. While she likes to wear the clothes; she is never letting the clothes wear her.
How would you describe this collection in one word?
How have your designs evolved from your past collections?
You know, there are always favorites from past collections and even if it’s one little detail it’s important to look back into your archive to see what worked and translate it into something new.
Do you ever recycle looks and/or ideas from past seasons?
Sometimes if there is something that was received very well — I like to take that idea and bring it forward to use it as the basis for a new creation.
How would you describe your personal style?
Though my personal style is actually somewhat conservative and classic, I try to keep it current and modern.
