Hipster Hot Spot Alert: Oleanders at McCarren Hotel & Pool
As if Williamsburg wasn’t New York’s trendiest spot already, now it’s got Oleanders! The vintage-chic restaurant/bar located inside the hip McCarren Hotel & Pool is the epitome of Brooklyn fine dining. Decorated in a spectrum of earthy tans, golds and maroons with a touch of silver, this beautifully designed restaurant is the modern eatery that Williamsburg was missing.
Boasting an innovative menu designed by Executive Chef Kevin Chojnowski (from Public, Olives NY and Willow Road) the new American cuisine at Oleanders is a savory surprise comparable – if not better – to any Manhattan five-start classic. Not only is the produce of the finest quality, but the concept is fresh and experimental – much like the Williamsburg audience which is quickly taking over this new hot spot.
Some of our top picks of the evening were the Goat Cheese Fondue with honeycomb, rosemary and market veggies, and the Diver Scallops with onion soup risotto cakes, pistachio pesto and roasted beets. For dessert, get the Sticky Toffee Pudding with salted caramel and vanilla ice cream– the ideal combination of sweet, light and salty, nothing has ever been so perfect.
On our visit to Olenaders there was more than one thing that amazed us. Yes, the interiors are ample, homy, sophisticated and with a touch of hipster style that we appreciate more than most, but it was not only the walls of this restaurant that were beautiful. Each dish we were served could very well have been a masterpiece. Prepared with the finest touch, the freshest ingredients and the joyful concept of sharing, each platter was an absolute gift, and even better when paired with a house drink!
Thanks to beverage manager Francis Verrall, the craft cocktail list at Oleanders is just as impressive as the food menu. Using spirits by local distillers and only seasonal ingredients, the fun mixes pair perfectly with Chef Kevin’s dining experience.
Featuring house mixes like the Hipster Reviver (made with Dorothy Parker Gin, Cocchi Americano, Cointreau, lemon and St. George absinthe mist) and the Fire in The Hole (made with Ilegal Mescal Jove, Cynar, lemon, blood orange and regatta ginger beer), Oleanders’ artfully crafted drinks are true crowd pleasers!
Next time you’re looking for a great Sunday spot, take a stroll down to Oleanders and try out their delicious bites and powerfully inventive drinks. We guarantee an unforgettable experience.
